e165 Coaching isn't the offer, You are
===
[00:00:00] Welcome. Welcome to the Heads Together podcast. I'm your host, Gill Moakes. Thank you for being here again, good to have you back with me, and if you're new around these parts. I'm Jill. I'm a business coach, and I talk all things growing your coaching practice. So I dunno if I sound a bit different because obviously I'm just recording and I haven't listened to the edited version.
And I do know that Lena, my wonderful podcast editor, will do her best to make me sound fab. But I'm actually recording in my dining room at the moment. If the recording sounds a bit different to usual, that is why, but it's for a really exciting reason. My office is being decorated as we speak. I cannot wait to get back in there though.
Honestly, this has triggered so much of my, well, I dunno, neurodivergent tendencies. I do not cope well with a change of environment. It's [00:01:00] been really challenging working down here on my dining table, even though I like. Actually looking at it, I have more room than upstairs on my desk. For some reason, I feel so cluttered and yeah, outta my comfort zone.
But that's where the growth is. They say, don't they any who? Let's. Jump into this week's episode because I wanna talk to you about something that came up for me, really when I was recording last week's episode, which was about the things I would do differently if I was starting my business over again today.
So if you haven't listened to that one, you might wanna hop back and listen to that. One of the things that. I mentioned last time was around kind of how I would really focus on building my personal brand with intention and get very clear on my values and things like that much sooner than I actually did.
So that's really the inspiration for this episode, which is about how [00:02:00] coaching is not your offer, you are. So let's jump in.
Welcome. Welcome to the Heads Together podcast. I'm Gill Moakes, and I am obsessed with cutting through the noise when it comes to growing your business. Each week via intimate coaching conversations and inspirational stories. I share what it really takes to get the results you want. In a way that feels right to you, I am all about attracting higher ticket opportunities, building authentic relationships, and creating the abundant, full fat version of your dream business.
I mean, how many of us have beavered away creating a light version of what we really want? The thing is, I honestly believe. When you are outstanding at what you do, there is no limit to what you can achieve. So are you ready to put our heads together [00:03:00] and make it happen? Let's go.
If you are someone who has ever themselves.
Doubting whether people are gonna pay your rates feeling invisible in this really crowded arena, right? If you've ever felt any of those things, this episode is for you because I honestly think that this episode is going to help change the way you see your business. This is a little bit of Flip the script episode, honestly, and I start off with why.
Coaching isn't the offer. Coaching is not what your ideal client is buying. They're not lying in bed and waking up in the middle of the night thinking, oh my [00:04:00] God, if only I could find someone to take me through their six step program. You know? Or if only I could find someone with a 12 week container.
That is not what they're thinking about. Process of coaching at all.
That's what they wake up in the middle of the night thinking about. They're thinking about the change they desperately need to make. They're thinking about the things in their life that they're tired of. Tolerating and coaching is the vehicle we use to help get them to the destination they wanna get to.
But what I see so often is coaches making the mistake of trying to sell the process and not the transformation. Or even worse, and this is a huge mistake that I see some coaches making, they get stuck in trying to justify coaching as a thing, [00:05:00] right? But the interesting thing is that you don't actually, the value of coaching, if you are showing.
As your offer. So what I mean by that is you know, you are what people are investing in, not an offer, and you don't need to convince anyone of the value of your coaching because you can give them the experience of it. The thing that attracts people to you, I promise you, is not the fact that you a coach.
What will attract the right people to you is your story, your energy, your values, your lens on the world, your thought leadership. Those are the things that magnetize the right people to you. There could be like 10,000, there probably are 10,000 other coaches doing what [00:06:00] you do, but not one single one of them can replicate you.
So when I say you are the offer, what I mean is that your lived experience, your learned experience, your beliefs, your unique take on the world, the way you challenge, the way you ask questions, your personality, the kind of encouragement you offer, the level of I you bring into a conversation, right? Those are drawn.
You being so rooted in who you're and what you stand for, that the right people can see straight away that they're in alignment with you and that you are the person that they want to help them get to where they wanna get to [00:07:00] know. Going into detail of what your coaching offer. Replace explaining to them who you are, showing them who you are, giving them an experience of who you're, and telling them, explaining to them what the transformation is that you, as that embodied person bring about for them.
Practical, what does that actually mean in practice? So if coaching isn't the offer and you're, how does that change what you need to put out there? Well, I think there's a few ways that this shows up. First of all, your content becomes more personal and less performative because when you are selling coaching.
You tend to gravitate towards, uh, posting online about things like how to, how to tips, right? When you [00:08:00] understand that you are the offer, you shift that slightly and you begin sharing more about your beliefs, your perspective. You're really inviting people into your world rather than just telling them about your process.
And the next way that this shows up is that you make sure that your offer is really naming that transformation. And it's not just about the logistics of what they get. So you don't lead with, you get 12 calls, you get Voxer access, you get X number of workbooks, you know, and you start explaining. Who this is for and how it brings about the transformation it brings about That is good messaging.
Great messaging is when you really speak to the transformation. The third thing is, and I touched on this last week [00:09:00] about the sales calls. I'm doing the podcast inverted again, air quotes. Your sales calls or your discovery calls, they shift from being about explaining to aligning. This is really, really important.
You stop trying to convince anyone of the value of coaching, but you tune right in to whether you are aligned with this person. Can you deliver to them what they need? Can you bring about the transformation they're looking for and how can you give them a taste of how it feels to be coached by you?
Their experience of your coaching is your offer, and that is what you give them by bringing. Everything that we just talked about, all of that learned and lived experience, your personality, your style, your way [00:10:00] of quite asking questions. When you bring all of that into a discovery call, that is what will enroll a client into working with you because coaching is everywhere you are not.
The reason we wanna give someone when they have that initial call with you, the real, true, deep generous experience of how it feels to be coached by you is because that is what sets. If you are one of those people who just positions offers as the what they get, that's never gonna set you apart. There are only so many combinations of numbers of calls and, um, you know, voicemail access or WhatsApp access.
You know, those things do not set you apart. It's who you're, it's your brand story. It's your personal brand. It's the who and it's. [00:11:00] It's your story, it's your brand voice, it's your messaging. It's all of those lived experiences, all what.
Now I'm gonna say something. Now it might sting a little bit, but I'm saying this with a lot of love. As always, if your offers aren't landing with your ideal clients, it could be because you have hidden yourself away inside them. It could be because you are hiding behind a professional sounding offer kind of offer that actually sounds.
Polished professional offer. We've all done that. I know I've done that in the past. I've absolutely looked at the coaches I admire and tried to emulate the way that they offer their coaching. But your business honestly doesn't need a more polished or [00:12:00] professional version of you. It needs the most honest, it needs the most unapologetic real version of you.
The right people for you are looking for you. They don't know necessarily that you exist yet, and you don't necessarily know that they exist yet, but the only way that they're gonna find you is if you make it very clear who you are, what you stand for, what matters to you, what's important to you. The real you.
The you that says things that other people wouldn't say because it's not who. The more of you that you are willing to bring to your business, the more your message will resonate with your ideal clients, the more ease you are gonna experience in growing your business, and the more momentum you are gonna have in enrolling clients.
I promise you that is true. I know that to be [00:13:00] true. This is not a long episode.
The big thing I want you to take away from this is that coaching is a really powerful modality, but it isn't the product. You are the offer. Your voice, your vision, your way of doing things, your way of holding a conversation, your way of asking questions. You are the offer, the experience of your coaching.
And the more of yourself you bring into your marketing, into your messaging, into your work, the more magnetic your business will become, and the more you'll stand out and the more likely it'll be that your perfect clients will actually be able to find you. Right. If this is something you.
The collective, my membership for coaches, if you join before the 1st of July, [00:14:00] so until the end of June, you'll be able to join at our founding member rate, which is 45 per month, which is an absolute steal. For what you get inside the collective, go to jill oaks com collective to find out a bit more about that.
And now is a really good time to join because each month we have a challenge inside of the membership. And next month our challenge is gonna be around writing your brand story. And your brand story is really understanding your values. It's, it's really, you know, getting clear on what that lived and learned experience is that's brought you to where you are today as a coach and everything you need, all of the resources you need to get clear on that in the collective, in the roadmap.
We go so deep into helping you with the resources that you need to build a really effective personal brand as a coach so that you can be the [00:15:00] offer, right? The collective is an incredible membership for coaches, and I know I would say that because I founded it, but honestly, this is the space where you will.
Go from feeling alone in building your coach practice. Maybe you're trying to patchwork together bits of advice that you've got from lots of different quarters. You know, maybe you sort of listen to this podcast one week and then you're doing another course, and then you're on YouTube watching videos and you're, you're trying to pull it all together, right?
Collective is where that ends. The collective is literally a stop.
A thriving coaching practice. So if you haven't already checked it out, like I say, go to Jill Moscom collective. I'll put the link in the show notes and just check out what we offer. And [00:16:00] remember, you have weekly live calls and. You get to ask me questions on the calls. So once a month I do a live hot seat coaching call where you get to ask wrestling with, and I get.
We don't have thousands of people on the calls. These are intimate calls. You get actual coaching from me. You know, there are so many reasons to join. Just go. Go check it out. I think you'll love it and I hope to see you on the inside of it. So if you want to uncover what it's about you that makes you powerful as a coach, and then build your business around that, come and join us in the collective.
